Now the bigger question – what is it like? It’s like being on a roller coaster. The first slow incline is the morning hours around here at J H I. Getting settled at your desk, drinking coffee, catching up on the latest and greatest. Then the coaster gets up to the top, right before it makes the (enter ridiculous roller coaster height here) drop where your stomach ends up in your throat. That point in time is right when our printers reach maximum capacity, the pub pushes the deadline forward by 4 days, or the wheel of death starts to spin on my computer screen. Then it’s 80mph from there. If you lose a minute waiting on the printer, you’ve got to gain a minute somewhere else in your day. My advice? Wear comfortable shoes.

Nothing slows down until the work is printed, delivered, approved, or presented. Notice I didn’t say “done” – the work is never done.

So, exactly like a roller coaster, there is a never a dull moment. Even as the coaster comes back to where it started, so do we. Go back to the drawing board, back through old emails, old files, etc., and re-create. Start anew; a new project, a new idea, a new opportunity. And just like the coaster, we unload, and reload. Back to the slow incline, the increasing anxiety, and the drop that pushes you right back to 80mph.

The pay off? ORGANIZATION. The feeling of watching a project come in, and then watching the masterpiece go back out, is priceless. It makes every stressful moment worth it. When your name is on that deadline and you beat it, it’s like Christmas morning all over again. And let’s not forget about the very happy client on the other end. They are the reason we’re here.

So there you have it, a typical day at J H I. Don’t get me wrong. There are moments of laughter, moments of playing with our biggest fan (and cutest dog) Onyx, press checks, client meetings, etc., but that’s just part of the job. Riveting isn’t it?

…and I’m just the intern.

It’s been a whirl of fur around the office. Bones, Onyx’s best friend, has been our doggy intern and spent the week learning the fine art of being an office dog. Which basically entails playing, snacking, sleeping and going on walks to take care of “business”. Following his internship, Bones will return to his regular routine: which is pretty much the same thing, only at home.

Recently, John, Christen and I got to spend a few fun days with our friends at Westminster Canterbury Richmond shooting photography for the new marketing materials we’re creating. We can’t wait to show off the new work soon!

You know that drawer where you have that unsightly spaghetti-like glob of rubber bands that you just can’t seem to throw out because it seems wasteful? The ones that you are sure you will need someday…Today is the day!

Send them to us…we are always in a growth mode and we don’t want to leave our pet rubber band ball behind…
